Wait, is that Hunter Schafer? We had to look twice too. The Euphoria star covers ELLE's November 2026 issue, on newsstands Nov. 3 and on ELLE.com now, Tom + Lorenzo reports. For the cover, she swapped her signature long blonde hair for a wavy brunette micro-bob, according to InStyle.

Inside, she talks about her first lead TV role in Blade Runner 2099, and the action lesson she got from Michelle Yeoh.

The micro-bob moment

Schafer's new 'do was styled with a center part and voluminous waves, falling just below her ears to show off her cheekbones, InStyle reports. She paired it with light brown brows and no eye makeup, and wore an abstract black and white two-piece by Tom Ford on the cover, per InStyle.

The shoot played with more bobs, too: an ultra-short blonde bob curled under at the ends, a brunette version in the same style and a black micro-bob, all courtesy of hairstylist Pablo Kümin, InStyle says. Szilveszter Makó photographed and art-directed the shoot, with styling by Jessica Willis, and Lotte Jeffs wrote the interview, according to Tom + Lorenzo.

Fans needn't panic about the blonde, though. InStyle notes she wore big, bouncy blonde curls at the Academy Museum Gala on Oct. 17, just days earlier. (See more of that night in our Academy Museum Gala best-dressed list.)

Her first TV lead: Blade Runner 2099

Blade Runner 2099 is Schafer's first TV role as a lead, and the limited series is coming to Prime Video in November, ELLE reports. She plays Cora, a human masquerading as a replicant Blade Runner, a fugitive fighting for the survival of mankind.

It's a tough part. "I smile maybe twice," Schafer told ELLE. She also loves the franchise's take on the future: "The androids in Blade Runner are kind of nuts and artistic and messy, which I think is more accurate."

The twist: Michelle Yeoh taught her how to fall

Here's our favorite detail. Schafer did many of her own stunts on the show alongside Michelle Yeoh, whom she describes as "one of the best—a master," ELLE reports. Yeoh became a mother figure who helped "usher me into the world of action," Schafer said.

She was offered the role without auditioning and had done very little training, so at first she would just flop onto the ground as best she could, according to ELLE. Then Yeoh, tired of watching her hurt herself, explained the art of "layering a fall with your body so the weight gets dispersed." Honestly, is there a better teacher on Earth?

"The reason I like action so much is you don't have to think that much," Schafer told ELLE. "It's just being in your body."

Her road to a lead role

Schafer has built a career out of intense parts, ELLE notes. She played Jules, Rue's lifeline, on Euphoria; teenager Gretchen in the body-horror film Cuckoo; and assistant Hilda in Mother Mary. Before acting took over, she walked runways for Dior, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Coach, Rick Owens, Maison Margiela, Helmut Lang and Vera Wang, among others, per ELLE.

She says the darker roles haven't dimmed her. These days, she told ELLE, she's "okay with riding this very strange, sometimes terrifying, and a lot of the time really delicious wave."

Learning from the best

Working with powerful women has been a theme of her career, ELLE notes. She calls her Euphoria co-star Zendaya "like a sister" and says, "She showed me the ropes," including how to keep celebrity and real life "separate."
