What happened on Sunday

The Indian Express reports that Mumbai Police registered a case against three unidentified men for allegedly firing five rounds at Shroff's vehicle near Pushpa Narsee Park in Vile Parle at around 7 pm. The Hindu, which describes the location as the Juhu area, says police put the number of rounds at three. Those details may be updated as the investigation goes on.

Shroff himself was not hurt. But two other people were. The Indian Express says his driver, Firdosh, and a bystander, Umesh Chavan, sustained bullet injuries. Police have recorded the driver's statement.

Mumbai Police registered an attempt to murder case, and it was later transferred to the Crime Branch, according to The Hindu. The Indian Express reports that police formed 15 teams to trace the shooters.

Caught on a train within hours

The search moved fast. On Monday morning, a joint team of the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force and Kota City Police stopped the Pune-Jaipur Express at Kota after a tip from Mumbai Police, The Indian Express reports. Officers searched the train and picked up the three suspects in about 15 minutes. The Hindu says they were found in the general coach.

Kota Superintendent of Police Tejaswani Gautam said the group was planning to get off at Jaipur, take a bus to Delhi and then cross into Nepal. "No weapons have been recovered from them," she said, as quoted by The Indian Express.

Police identified two of the suspects as Rehan from Sonipat in Haryana and Ritik, also called Hritik or Roshan, from Bihar. The third is a minor. According to Gautam, two of them allegedly fired the shots while the third was a bike taxi driver. The Hindu reports that the three are detained for now and will be formally arrested once Mumbai Police takes custody. The Times of India also reported the Kota operation.

What we know, and what we don't

A social media post claimed responsibility for the attack on behalf of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police have not verified that claim or established any link to the gang, The Indian Express reports, and The Hindu says the authenticity of the video has not been confirmed.

SP Gautam did say that one of the suspects, Rehan, had been in touch with Anil Pandit, whom The Hindu describes as an alleged associate of the gang. The motive has not been made public.

Leaders rally around the star

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he had spoken to Shroff and assured him the case would be taken seriously, according to The Hindu. "No one will be spared," he said, as quoted by The Indian Express, adding that police would investigate to find anyone else involved.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Shroff at his home in Bandra on Sunday night, asked about his health and reassured his family of full security, The Hindu reports.

One of Bollywood's biggest action stars

The 36-year-old, born Jai Hemant Shroff, is one of Bollywood's top action stars and a martial artist with a fifth-degree black belt in Taekwondo, per The Hindu. He made his debut in Heropanti in 2014 and went on to star in hits including War. If you're catching up on Tiger Shroff movies, the Times of India counts Heropanti, the Baaghi films and War, his blockbuster with his screen idol Hrithik Roshan, among the highlights, with War still his biggest box-office hit.

For now, fans are simply relieved that their hero is safe, and are sending their love to the two men who were hurt. We'll update this story as Mumbai Police shares more.
