How to watch Abbott Elementary season 6

Season 6 premiered on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 8:30 p.m. on ABC, The Walt Disney Company announced. New episodes air every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT, and each one streams the next day on Hulu, and on Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers, according to Disney+.

The season has 22 half-hour episodes, Disney+ confirms. ABC renewed the show for season 6 back in March, The Hollywood Reporter reported, calling it the top comedy on TV that season among adults 18-49 once a week of multi-platform viewing was counted.

What's happening at Abbott this season

The whole gang is back: Brunson as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard, Disney+ says. Disney+ promises "a new class and another round of problems no teacher-training manual could cover."

Williams told Disney that one of the season's most meaningful threads is Gregory "figuring out what comes next in his life and career." "It kind of carried over from Season 5," he said.

What Quinta Brunson says

Brunson's description of Janine hasn't changed: "unbridled optimism," and she told Disney she's still amazed at how much of it her character has left.

She also said this season has shown her how much the show means to its home network. "We have multiple storylines this season that have helped me have a greater understanding of just how important we are to the Disney family," she said. "More than any other season, I've really felt that this year."

And she's honest about how hard the show is to make. Producing 22 episodes a season has been "quite the boot camp," Variety reported in May. "I feel invincible," Brunson said. "I can't stress enough how much work, care, thought, blood, sweat and tears it takes to try to still make it good."

The twist: the 100th episode, and who's watching

Here's the milestone. Season 6 is the one where Abbott Elementary reaches 100 episodes, a rare feat for a half-hour sitcom, Disney says. "It's a big deal," Brunson said. "It feels incredible. We're so honored to be able to give 100 episodes to people."

The sweetest surprise is who is driving the fandom now. Brunson said she originally wanted to make a show families could watch together. Now, she told Disney, "it's gotten to the point where it's the reverse — where people are telling me their kids are putting them more into the show." Kids are the ones telling their parents, "I want you to watch this with me."

So if a younger family member has been begging you to watch with them, Wednesday nights on ABC are the place to start.
