The film and TV mogul has bought a mansion in Puerto Rico for $30 million, PEOPLE confirmed. TMZ was first to report the news.
The purchase comes about a month after Perry, 57, said he was planning a big life change, and it sounds like a dream place to start it.
Inside the $30 million home
According to PEOPLE, Perry closed on a 14,475-square-foot house that sits on nearly 1.4 acres. The five-bedroom, 10-bathroom home was built in 2021 and is located inside a gated community.
The perks are exactly what you would hope for from a movie mogul's new hideaway. Both PEOPLE and TMZ reported that it has its own movie theater, along with an open-concept kitchen, a pool and a gym. A private screening room for the man behind Madea just makes sense.
"I'm pulling back a whole lot"
Perry had already told fans the move was coming. In a September interview on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, he said he planned to relocate at the start of 2027, PEOPLE reported.
"Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I'm pulling back a whole lot," Perry told Justin Sylvester when asked whether he ever planned to "chill out" in his career, according to PEOPLE.
"Getting older [inspired this]," he added. "It's time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in."
Perry shares his son, Aman, 11, with his ex-girlfriend Gelila Bekele, whom he dated from 2009 to 2020, PEOPLE reported. It is sweet to see such a busy mogul put family time first.
Is he still going to work there?
Slowing down does not necessarily mean stopping. TMZ reported, citing sources, that Perry plans to keep working while living in Puerto Rico, including opening a production office and filming projects on the island. PEOPLE repeated that report but attributed it to TMZ. Perry himself has not publicly confirmed any filming plans, so for now that part remains a report rather than an announcement.
TMZ also pointed out that Perry is joining a growing list of famous faces who have moved to the island in recent years, noting that Logan and Jake Paul live there.
A real estate shake-up
The Puerto Rico buy is part of a bigger reshuffle of Perry's homes. PEOPLE reported that in September he listed his $57 million, 24,592-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion for sale. That nine-bedroom estate is where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stayed for a few months in 2020 as they stepped back from their senior royal roles, according to PEOPLE.
Citing The Wall Street Journal, PEOPLE added that Perry bought that Beverly Hills property for $4.3 million in 2004 and finished building the home in 2012. The Journal also reported that he owns a home in Atlanta near the 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios lot, plus a private island in the Bahamas. He also listed a home in Jackson, Wyoming, for $39.5 million in June, PEOPLE said, citing the Journal.
A new chapter
From a 330-acre studio lot in Atlanta to carving out space for quiet time with his son, Perry seems ready for a softer season of life, with a pool and a home theater to enjoy it in.
