Ramayana, the epic starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, will hold its world premiere at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on October 27, Hindustan Times and India Today reported. Hindustan Times called it one of the few times an Indian film has hosted its world premiere at the museum.
A red carpet in festive wear
This premiere is going to look gorgeous. With the celebrations coinciding with Diwali, the makers are bringing India's festive spirit to LA, and guests have been asked to arrive in traditional Indian festive attire for their red-carpet appearances, according to Hindustan Times. India Today also reported the traditional dress request.
The evening event will take place in the museum's David Geffen Theatre, Hindustan Times said, with a full-capacity audience of 945 guests. That guest list includes leading Hollywood figures, filmmakers, international press and prominent members of the film industry, the outlet reported. The film will be screened in 3D, according to both outlets.
The Academy Museum has had a big October already. It is the same institution that just held its glittering annual gala, where Charlize Theron received the Icon Award and Taylor Swift performed.

Who's who in Ramayana
The cast is a dream lineup. According to India Today and Hindustan Times, Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana and Sunny Deol plays Hanuman.
Hindustan Times reported that the ensemble also includes Ravi Dubey, Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan and Lara Dutta.
The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, Hindustan Times said. India Today noted it is based on sage Valmiki's ancient text.
The story
India Today, which gave the first film's full title as Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, described it as following Prince Rama, the righteous heir of Ayodhya, who marries Princess Sita after a feat of divine strength in Mithila. Palace intrigue forces Rama into a fourteen-year exile in the Dandaka Forest with Sita and his loyal brother Laxman, until Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducts Sita and sets off an epic battle between good and evil.
Release dates and a massive budget
After the LA premiere, the first part will open worldwide on November 5, 2026, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, both outlets reported. It will also play in IMAX, with Sony Pictures handling distribution outside India and Dharma Productions releasing it in the Hindi-speaking market. The second part is scheduled for Diwali 2027.
The scale is huge. Hindustan Times reported that Yash recently confirmed the combined budget for both parts is ₹4,000 crore. Speaking at the film's trailer launch in Bengaluru, he explained why the team talks about the project so confidently: "We need to prove the strength of the Indian film industry to the global market."
