At New York Comic Con earlier this month, the Matt Murdock actor gave a shout-out to the fans behind the "Save Daredevil" campaign, as Marvel's Daredevil: Born Again heads into its third and final season, Deadline reported on October 8 (U.S. time). Here's a look back at what he said at that panel, and where things stand now.
"Wait, what?"
While Cox was teasing season 3 with his co-stars, the panel's moderator mentioned the show's coming conclusion, according to Deadline. "Wait, what?" Cox asked jokingly, which set off boos from disappointed fans in the room.
Then he gave the fans exactly what they wanted to hear. "I imagine the 'Save Daredevil' campaign will be gearing up for round two," Cox said, as quoted by Deadline. "Listen, we don't want to invite the wrath of the 'Save Daredevil' people." GamesRadar+ reported that during the Marvel TV and Animation panel, Cox joked that the cancellation was the #SaveDaredevil internet campaign happening all over again.
A campaign with history
This is not the first time fans have rallied for the Man Without Fear. Deadline noted that the "Save Daredevil" campaign began in 2018, after Netflix canceled the original Daredevil following three seasons. The show was later revived as Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, with Cox back as the title hero.
Now history is repeating itself. Deadline confirmed in September that Born Again will end after season 3, and GamesRadar+ reported that Marvel officially confirmed it at NYCC, noting the new show will also wrap after three seasons, just like the Netflix version.
"The end of an era"
Cox did not sound blindsided. He told GamesRadar+ that he and the cast went into filming season 3 with the "feeling that it would be the end of an era."
He is also not ruling out more Matt Murdock. Asked by GamesRadar+ at NYCC whether fans might see Daredevil in an upcoming Marvel movie, a tight-lipped Cox said: "Maybe this will open the door for that. We'll see."
GamesRadar+ reminded fans that before Born Again premiered in 2025, Matt Murdock popped up in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker's lawyer, which was Cox's first MCU appearance. Fans still love that moment: when a protester's brick came flying through the window, Matt calmly caught it, and when a stunned Peter asked how, he replied, "I'm a really good lawyer," GamesRadar+ recalled. That cameo officially made the Netflix Daredevil series canon, the outlet noted.
It is a big part of why fans are so attached. Cox has now played Matt Murdock across the Netflix series, a Spider-Man movie and Born Again, and the 2018 campaign showed how loudly this fandom can speak up when it wants more.
When is the final season?
Season 3 has finished filming. Deadline reported that it is set to premiere in 2027, while GamesRadar+ said it does not yet have a specific release date.
The final season is stacked, too. According to Deadline, the cast includes Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, along with a confirmed Defenders reunion featuring cameos from Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Finn Jones as Danny Rand.
Can fans save it again?
Nobody has promised anything, and Cox was careful not to. But if the last campaign proved anything, it is that Daredevil fans do not give up easily, and their leading man clearly appreciates them for it.
