Kendall Jenner and Jacob Elordi Turn the Academy Museum Gala Into Their Most Public Date Yet

Kendall Jenner, 30, and Jacob Elordi, 29, both attended the sixth annual Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 17. They walked the carpet separately, just moments apart, according to Page Six and Us Weekly. But once the cameras on the step-and-repeat were behind them, the solo act was over.

The photo everyone is zooming in on

Inside the gala, the pair were photographed sitting side by side at their table, enjoying a steak dinner, Page Six reported. Harper's Bazaar described them leaning into one another and holding hands in the shot.

According to Elle, it was their first official event photo together since reports of their romance broke. For two people who have famously kept their relationship off the record, that is a very big deal in a very small frame.

He couldn't stop filming her

The sweetest detail of the night came before dinner. Elle reported that videos from the event show Elordi meeting Jenner at the end of the carpet and wrapping an arm around her waist as she reached back to take his hand.

In another clip, the Euphoria star turned his iPhone on Jenner as she posed for photographers, capturing his own view of her gala look. The Hollywood Reporter saw the same moment, noting that Elordi "stood back and recorded video of her posing on his phone" while Jenner and her sister Kim Kardashian stopped for photos. He then posed for his own pictures before rejoining the group out of sight of photographers.

Elle pointed out that this was not the first time he has played personal photographer. Weeks earlier, he was seen taking pictures of Jenner with a film camera as she walked Bottega Veneta's runway during Milan Fashion Week.

Black, white and perfectly in sync

If they were not technically a couple on the carpet, they certainly dressed like one. Harper's Bazaar noted the coordinated black-and-white looks.

Jenner wore a custom Valentino gown covered in polka dots. Harper's Bazaar described a strapless white-dotted black bodice and a floor-sweeping, black-dotted ivory silk skirt draped with a slit lined in black and finished with bows at the hips. She took the theme all the way down to polka-dot heels, Elle reported.

Elordi went classic in a custom Bottega Veneta tuxedo with a bow tie, plus sunglasses that turned the whole look into an instant moment.

The result was playful, elegant and a little bit retro, the kind of pairing that fashion fans will be screenshotting for weeks.

The after-party exit

The night did not end at dinner. Page Six reported that the pair were later seen leaving an after-party at the Chateau Marmont together in the same car.

Still not talking, still very much together

Neither Jenner nor Elordi has publicly addressed the relationship, as Elle, Page Six and Us Weekly all noted. That has not stopped them from being spotted together again and again.

Harper's Bazaar reported that the two have traveled to Hawaii, Japan and Australia together, and have gone on double dates with Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet, as well as Justin and Hailey Bieber. In August, the outlet added, Jenner flew to London to support Elordi at the UK premiere of his film The Dog Stars, though she skipped the red carpet that night.

Page Six also cited an unnamed source who said earlier this month that "things are going really well" between the two, though they are "not rushing into something that serious." Those are anonymous claims, and neither star has commented on them.

A gala worthy of the moment

They picked quite the setting for their biggest public appearance yet. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the gala, often called the "Met Gala of the West Coast", raised more than $14 million for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The evening honored Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo and John Carpenter, and closed with a four-song performance from Taylor Swift.

Among all those headlines, one quiet photo of two people sharing dinner might be the image that travels the furthest. Kendall and Jacob did not need a joint red carpet to make a statement. They just needed one table, one phone camera and a whole lot of polka dots.
