In 2026 he became the voice of Kwik-E-Mart owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, debuting in the Halloween episode "The Revengening." He told Variety that the audition call "made my stomach sink" and that he "was prepared to walk away"; he had turned down his first professional job offer 28 years earlier because it meant playing a stereotype. He agreed after meeting the producers, calling it "a deeply collaborative experience." His favorite moment was recording a "righteously rage-fueled 'I AM APU!'"
"Bringing Apu back feels like a reclamation. It truly IS his homecoming," he wrote with Janina Gavankar, the new Manjula, per The Guardian. Read Apu returns to The Simpsons with a new voice, and visit the Janina Gavankar and Hank Azaria hubs.
