Michael Allen Jones was born on November 18, 1981, and raised in Houston, according to Wikipedia. He originally dreamed of playing in the NBA and rapping on the side.
He started out in 1999 in the group Souf Folk under the name Sache, then launched his own label, Ice Age Entertainment, in 2001 and promoted his music himself. He later signed with Houston's Swishahouse after its A&R T. Farris heard him on a mixtape.
His 2004 single "Still Tippin'," with Slim Thug and Paul Wall, made the Billboard Hot 100 and landed him a major deal with Jive and Warner Bros. "Back Then" (2005) reached No. 22, both songs went platinum, and his debut album, Who Is Mike Jones? (2005), hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
His second album, The Voice (2009), produced the Hot 100 entries "Next to You" and "Cuddy Buddy." He is known for repeating "Who? Mike Jones!" on his songs and for handing out shirts with his cell number printed on the back.
